Ames, Iowa - In response to Sen. Joni Ernst's recent announcement that she will not be running for re-election to the U.S. Senate, Iowa Cattlemen's Association (ICA) CEO Bryan Whaley offers the following statement:
"We thank Sen. Ernst for her service to the U.S. Senate and for her strong support of Iowa agriculture, specifically our cattle producers. The association has appreciated Sen. Ernst's commitment to meeting and hearing from her constituents, as demonstrated by the many times she engaged with ICA staff and members during trips to Washington, D.C., as well as here in Iowa. Whether speaking with our young producers from the Iowa Cattlemen's Leadership Program or experienced producers from our board of directors, Sen. Ernst always listened intently, sharing work that has been done or brainstorming solutions.
"Her understanding of the importance of agriculture and the notion that food security is national security has led her to be a guiding proponent of policy and programs that strengthen agriculture. We wish her well in her future endeavors. ICA looks forward to continuing our work with Sen. Grassley and Sen. Ernst's successor to continue to advance our members' priorities."
