The Brazilian government condemns the Israeli operations carried out in recent days in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in dozens of deaths, with a high number of Palestinian women and children among them. In the most recent episode, in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp, children were killed in an Israeli air strike while queuing to collect drinking water for themselves and their families. The Israeli military admitted they were responsible for the attack and attributed it to a "technical error".
The consequences of such actions are incompatible, in the light of international humanitarian law, with the obligations of the occupying power and must be the subject of investigations with a view to duly establishing responsibility.
Brazil also regrets that these deaths will be added to the nearly 800 deaths that have occurred in the last six weeks at humanitarian aid posts controlled by the Israeli government in Gaza.
Once again, innocent civilians are victims of Israeli military action against densely populated areas and humanitarian aid lines.
In this context, the Brazilian government reaffirms its call for an immediate ceasefire that guarantees the cessation of hostilities, the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid.
