DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy Awards $5.9M to Universities to Advance Nuclear Energy Research

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Nuclear Energy today announced the competitive selection of 11 university-led projects across the country to receive a total of $5.9 million in funding to support advanced nuclear technology research. Awards go to some of the country's most elite research teams whose work will help the United States remain a global leader in nuclear energy innovation and accelerate President Trump's nuclear energy renaissance.

"The United States is home to extraordinary nuclear energy visionaries and innovators," said Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Strategic Crosscuts, Michelle Scott. "Today's awards demonstrate DOE's ongoing commitment that our country's brightest minds have the resources they need to pursue critical lines of inquiry to make the President's bold and ambitious nuclear energy goals a reality."

The Consolidated Innovative Nuclear Research (CINR) Phase II Continuation awards allow research teams that have performed high quality work through the Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP) to propose new projects that complement or enhance ongoing research.

• Massachusetts Institute of Technology
• Purdue University
• University of Texas at Dallas
• Mississippi State University
• University of Texas at Austin
• Texas A&M University College Station
• Iowa State University
• State University of New York, Stony Brook

Since 2009, NEUP has eclipsed more than $1 billion in funding to advance nuclear energy research and support the education and training of the future nuclear energy workforce.
