First Presbyterian Church has announced the closure of South Hayward Parish food pantry services

First Presbyterian Church has announced the closure of South Hayward Parish food pantry services effective Aug. 14 and is working with community partner agencies to connect pantry users to other nearby food distribution and nutrition resources.

The food pantry at South Hayward Parish has been serving community members for more than 50 years. Providing food pantry services, along with the growth in other community-serving programs, such as an Emergency Shelter and Day Resource Center for people experiencing homelessness, was not sustainable and led to the decision to close the pantry, the Church said.

"We've worked with our partners at Alameda County Food Bank to provide our pantry clients a list of other available food distribution sites," the Rev. Hallie Hottle and Jason Shaw, Outreach Director at First Pres, said in a letter announcing the closure. "We are hopeful more community organizations might step in to ensure food is available for those who need it most."

The announcement included a list of 11 Alameda County Community Food Bank Partner Agency food distribution sites within five miles of South Hayward Parish's 27287 Patrick Avenue location in South Hayward. The locations are:
