Pueblo Sister Cities Commission and Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County Participate in Gunsan Intern

PUEBLO-Pueblo Sister Cities Commission and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County partnered together to participate in the Gunsan International Children's Art Exhibition. The annual art exhibition takes place in Gunsan, South Korea Dec. 8-13, 2025, at the Gunsan Art Center.

"The Pueblo Sister Cities Commission seeks to create relationships based on cultural, business and educational trade exchanges with our partners across the world. This opportunity to participate in the Gunsan International Children's Art Exhibition is unique and a wonderful way to have students from Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County show how international relationships work," said President of Pueblo Sister Cities Commission Michael Salardino.

Recently the City of Pueblo partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County for an art installation in Mayor Heather Graham's office with Pueblo Arts Alliance. The already established art relationship gave an opportunity for Pueblo Sister Cities to extend the invitation to send artwork to South Korea for the international art show.

"Participating in this international exhibition allows our young artists to share Pueblo's creativity and spirit on a global stage," said Chief Operating Officer Becky Medina of Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County. "This partnership reflects the best of Pueblo-community organizations coming together to support our young people and celebrate their talent."

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County coordinated for 30 students ages 13 and younger to participate in this art exhibition from clubhouses across Pueblo County. The original drawings, paintings and other forms of artwork were digitally scanned and sent to Gunsan in November, in order for the team to prepare the exhibit by December 8. The first name and title of the drawing was included for each piece to be put on display during the international art show.

The City of Pueblo and Gunsan City of the Republic of South Korea signed a letter of intent to establish a friendly relationship in December of 2023. The first step in the process has allowed the Pueblo Sister Cities Commission to establish a path forward for a productive relationship between Gunsan City and the City of Pueblo.

In the fall of 2022, City officials and Pueblo Community College officials traveled to South Korea. One of the cities visited on the trip included Gunsan City where the Pueblo delegation met Mayor Kang of Gunsan City and his leadership team. In April of 2023, a group of professors and university officials from Kunsan University of Gunsan City visited Pueblo. During the visit there were meetings with PCC and CS Wind which included intentions for collaboration, exchange student programming and more.

Sister City relationships many times include opportunities with agriculture, education, culture, economic development, safety, tourism and other mutually beneficial cooperation. Pueblo has a long history of strong international relationships with other sister cities. Currently, Pueblo has six Sister City relationships with Bergamo Italy; Chihuahua, Mexico; Lucca Sicula, Sicily; Maribor, Slovenia; Puebla, Mexico and Weifang, China. The United States and South Korea have enjoyed a special relationship since 1953.
