Stafford Treasurer's Office Renews Statewide Accreditation for Excellence in Treasury Management

The Stafford County Treasurer's Office has renewed its accreditation through the Treasurers' Association of Virginia (TAV), effective July 1, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to excellence, accountability and professional service to the residents of Stafford County.

The Office Accreditation Program is a voluntary professional certification program administered by the Treasurers' Association of Virginia and requires annual renewal. Although accreditation is not required for Virginia treasurers' offices, it recognizes offices that meet statewide best practices in treasury management and demonstrate a strong commitment to operational excellence and public service.

As part of the rigorous accreditation process, participating offices must successfully complete an independent audit with no findings of material weakness. Accredited offices must also demonstrate a commitment to continuing education, including completion of an ethics course by the treasurer and ongoing professional development for staff members. In addition, offices are required to maintain comprehensive written policies governing personnel, customer service, delinquent collections and other key operational areas.

"The renewal of this accreditation reflects our office's dedication to serving the citizens of Stafford County with integrity, professionalism and accountability," said Stafford County Treasurer Mike Sienkowski. "I am incredibly proud of my team's commitment to maintaining the highest standards in financial management and customer service."

Bonnie Dickson, President of the Treasurers' Association of Virginia, recognized the achievement of the accredited offices.

"All of these offices represent the high standards of excellence and integrity that our Association is dedicated to maintaining. We are honored to recognize the commitment and hard work of the 77 offices that have attained accreditation this year, as they exemplify the quality and professionalism that we strive for in our field."

The Stafford County Treasurer's Office remains dedicated to responsible stewardship of public funds while providing efficient, transparent, and responsive service to the community.
