Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores | February 08, 2026 | Press Release
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that, in accordance with current Mexican immigration regulations, on February 5 electronic visas took effect for Brazilian nationals who plan to enter Mexico as visitors without permission to perform paid activities, for a single entry exclusively by air.
This initiative honors the commitment announced by the governments of Mexico and Brazil to facilitate the movement of their nationals between both countries in an efficient, safe, orderly, and regular manner, and confirms the shared desire to strengthen a stronger and closer bilateral relationship focused on the wellbeing and shared prosperity of their peoples.
Following the instructions of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the electronic visa was designed and implemented through close interinstitutional collaboration among the Mexican Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior and the National Migration Institute, with technical support from the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency and promotional work by the Ministry of Tourism.
The e-visa also marks a milestone in the modernization of Mexico's public services, as the first fully digital procedure conducted abroad. It directly enhances the efficiency and modernization of the consular services provided by the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
The electronic visa does not substitute or replace the consular visa. Brazilian nationals may continue to apply normally for a visitor visa at any of Mexico's consular representations abroad, which allows multiple entries, with validity of up to 180 days or up to 10 years, and is required when entering Mexico by sea or land.
The electronic visa plays a key role in achieving the Plan México objective of positioning our country as the fifth most visited worldwide by 2030. It also represents a vital step in promoting business and strengthening entrepreneurial, academic, and cultural ties between the two most important countries in Latin America and the Caribbean by population, territory, and economy. This collaboration unlocks significant potential for regional integration.
For more information about how the electronic visa works and its features, we recommend consulting the official communication channels of the Government of Mexico, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mexican consular offices worldwide, as well as the portals: visaelectronica.sre.gob.mx and miconsulado.sre.gob.mx.
