WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after being re-elected to serve California's 36th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 120th Congress.
"Today, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the residents of California's 36th congressional district for once again placing their trust in me to represent them in Congress. Serving our beautiful community is truly the honor of my lifetime. I am incredibly grateful to my family, whose support means everything to me.
"But the work is just beginning. Democrats will enter the new Congress ready to fight for American families. The American people have spoken and have emphatically repudiated the MAGA agenda of trump and Republicans.
"With a united House and Senate, Democrats will focus on bringing down costs. We will work to reverse trump and Republicans' reckless tariffs, end their illegal war in Iran, and undo their cruel cuts to health care and food assistance. We will also hold the trump administration accountable for its corruption, abuses of power, and blatant violations of the law. We will advance an affirmative agenda that safeguards election integrity, reinforces states' ability to prepare for and respond to natural disasters, and puts reasonable guardrails on AI. We will treat our neighbors with respect and dignity, not division and contempt.
"I do not take this re-election, or the trust of my constituents, for granted. I promise to bring everything I have to the fight for an America that puts working families first."
