FloridaCommerce Awards More Than $8 Million to 13 Florida Communities Through the Florida Small Cities CDBG Program

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Today, FloridaCommerce awarded more than $8 million to 13 Florida small cities through the Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The Florida Small Cities CDBG program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by FloridaCommerce, provides critical resources to municipalities and counties throughout the state.

These awards will serve low- to moderate-income residents, address urgent community needs and promote sustainable development. Since 2019, FloridaCommerce has awarded more than $100 million in CDBG funds to more than 120 communities throughout the state.

"Under to Governor DeSantis' decisive leadership, FloridaCommerce continues to make critical infrastructure investments in Florida's small cities," said Florida Secretary of Commerce, J. Alex Kelly. "These investments help to support communities as they work to create the brightest future possible for their residents."

The following communities will receive an award through the Florida Small Cities CDBG program:

  • Alachua County ($750,000) - to rehabilitate or replace a minimum of 11 low- to moderate-income homes.
  • Town of Alford ($600,000) - to improve two potable water wells, replace a central interconnection line and replace fire hydrants, as well as replace motors, pumps and electrical systems at potable water well sites.
  • Baker County ($750,000) - to rehabilitate or replace a minimum of 10 low- to moderate-income homes.
  • Citrus County ($750,000) - to rehabilitate or replace a minimum of 11 low- to moderate-income homes.
  • City of Chattahoochee ($650,000) - to replace 2,075 ft of water lines on Pine Avenue, replace 875 ft of water lines along a portion of Brent Street, replace 1,300 ft of waterlines on Pearl Street, and update three fire hydrants.
  • City of Paxton ($600,000) - to supplement construction costs for a new Senior Center, including constructing of a stormwater pond, parking improvements and sewer and waterline extensions.
  • City of Sebring ($750,000) - to renovate Mary Toney Park and Gabe White Park, including new swing sets, playground equipment, sidewalks, playground turf and shade covers.
  • Desoto County ($750,000) - to rehabilitate a minimum of 11 low- to moderate-income homes.
  • Leon County ($750,000) - to rehabilitate a minimum of 13 low- to moderate-income homes.
  • Town of Brooker ($600,000) - to rehabilitate nine low- to moderate-income homes.
  • Town of Callahan ($650,000) - to rehabilitate 56 sanitary sewer collection system manholes and rehabilitate 1,000 Linear Feet of 8-inch sewer lines at two Town intersections.
  • Town of Jay ($600,000) - to construct sidewalks on Booker Lane and complete drainage and stormwater improvements in tandem with the construction of the new sidewalks.
  • Town of Micanopy ($600,000) - to replace all existing residential water meters within the Town with Automatic Meter Read (AMR) meters.
