Todd Foreman, ReMA's Senior Director of Law Enforcement Outreach, showcased ReMA's theft prevention resources at the Southeast International Association of Auto Theft Investigators' (SEIAATI) Annual Vehicle Crimes Conference. The conference focuses on vehicle crimes training, networking, and sharing intelligence.
SEIAATI members represent investigators who work to solve many types of crimes from auto theft and catalytic converter theft to cargo theft and metals theft, so it was an ideal opportunity for ReMA to exhibit and develop relationships.
"Many law enforcement officers see the recycled materials industry as part of the problem and our goal by attending these events and meeting with these officers is to show them that we're part of the solution and help them learn more about our members and the industry," Foreman said.
Foreman discussed cargo theft issues with law enforcement officials and shared information about scraptheftalert.com, ReMA's real-time communication system that connects recyclers and law enforcement to recover stolen material and identify suspects.
"These events allow ReMA to make contacts across the country who we can reach out to and work with when issues arise," Foreman added. "We want to develop these relationships and take leadership in this collaboration between law enforcement and the recycled materials industry."
