55-Hour Lane Reduction Scheduled for Eastbound US 50/I-5 Interchange in Downtown Sacramento

Sacramento - Construction on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement "Fix50" Project continues with a scheduled 55-hour lane reduction this weekend on eastbound US 50 at the Interstate 5 (I-5) interchange in downtown Sacramento.

Crews will remove and replace the joint seal assembly on the bridge deck of eastbound US 50 across lanes #3 and #4 in the 7th Street area.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, February 27, through 5 a.m. Monday, March 2, crews will implement the following traffic controls:

  • Eastbound US 50 will be reduced to two open lanes: #1 and #2. Lanes #3 and #4 at the I-5 interchange toward 9th Street, work area, will be closed.
  • Closure of lane #1 on the southbound I-5 connector to eastbound US 50. Lane #2 will remain open on the connector.
  • Lane shift on the northbound I-5 connector to eastbound US 50.

Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance signage posted. Motorists are also encouraged to plan and allow extra travel time.

The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy lanes from the US 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
