On 20 May 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met with General Rangpiracht Yamkaesorn, Director-General of the Thailand Mine Action Center (TMAC), to discuss cooperation on humanitarian demining with the European Union and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining. Discussions focused on strengthening the capacity of Thai deminers in humanitarian demining and supporting Thailand's implementation of its obligations under the Ottawa Convention, including the complete prohibition of anti-personnel mines, destruction of stockpiled mines, detection and clearance of remaining landmines in affected areas, and assistance to victims.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, and the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand regard humanitarian demining as a key area of Thailand - EU security cooperation, with the aim of enhancing security and safety for communities living along border areas.
