LITTLE ROCK - The City of Little Rock will mobilize an overnight cold-weather emergency shelter today and Friday because of forecasted below-freezing temperatures.

The shelter at Dunbar Community Center will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. each night, and it is available to anyone who needs a safe, warm and dry place to stay. Dunbar Community Center is located at 1001 W. 16th St.

The shelter will mobilize for overnight service after operating as a 24-hour shelter earlier in the week. It was necessary to demobilize on Wednesday in order to deep clean and sanitize the building for health and safety reasons.

The overnight shelter is open to anyone seeking refuge from the cold temperatures. No identification is required, and pets are allowed in bedside kennels provided by the Little Rock Animal Village.

In addition to Dunbar, other community centers serve as warming centers during the winter, and they are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those are Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road; Stephens Community Center, 3720 W. 18th St.; and West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road.
