FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker and First Responders to Host Drone Assessment

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Urban Security Technology Laboratory (NUSTL) and the New York City Police Department (NYPD), will host a comparative assessment of unmanned aircraft systems for first responders in New York City with participating federal, state and local agencies. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. at 30 Hudson Yards (corner of 33rd and Hudson Boulevard).
The assessment will incorporate Department of Defense (DoD) approved drones from the "Blue UAS Cleared List" that have been vetted to be cyber-secure and compliant with DoD policy. As public safety agencies look to update their drone fleets, this assessment will help identify alternatives to drones from covered nations and provide manufacturers with feedback to guide future product improvements.
The FDNY Robotics Unit has utilized drones since 2017. This event will offer FDNY pilots a hands-on opportunity to evaluate potential drone replacements for use in FDNY operations.
