The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department will host a number of events throughout the month of June, beginning on Wednesday, June 3, with its Sunkissed Social by the Lake event at Hester Park.
The following are highlights of the upcoming month's offerings:
Sunkissed Social by the Lake
Wednesday, June 3 | 11 am to 2 pm | Hester Park, 3615 Deutzia St. | Free
Join Greensboro Parks and Recreation for Sunkissed by the Lake, the ultimate feel-good summer gathering where community comes together picnic-style to relax, connect, and soak up the summer energy. Bring your blanket, your lawn chair, your favorite people, and enjoy the festivities.
Lacrosse Clinic
Wednesdays, June 3, 10, 17, 24 | Jefferson Elementary School Field, 1400 New Garden Rd. | 6-7:30 pm | $40 per participant
This event, for youth ages 10-18, will teach participants the fundamentals of lacrosse. Equipment will be provided at clinics for participants to use. Registration required. Call 336-373-7617.
Summer Concert Series
Thursdays, June 4, 18, 25 | First National Bank Field, 408 Bellemeade St. | 6 pm | Tickets $15, 10 and under free
Join Downtown Greensboro Inc. and the City of Greensboro for a summer concert series at the Grasshopper Stadium. Shows include: The Shakedown (June 4), Sleeping Booty (June 18), and The Finns (June 25).
Fishing for Fun
Thursdays, June 4 through August 6 | Country Park, 3905 Nathanael Green Dr. | 9:30-11 am | Free
This event is for kids aged 5-14 who want to learn the basics of fishing.
Stroller Rollers
Friday, June 5 | Downtown Greenway, Woven Works Park, 401 Cumberland St. | 10:30-11:30 am | Free
Calling all caregivers with little ones! Join Greensboro Parks and Recreation with your children in strollers for a walk (and roll) along the Downtown Greenway. Meet new people and explore the downtown area. Plan for one-to-two miles round trip, and enjoy family-friendly play spaces at the start and finish.
Greensboro Mountain Biking Experience
Sunday, June 7 | Lake Higgins Marina/Bald Eagle Trail, 4235 Hamburg Mill Rd. | 1-3:30 pm | $5
Instruction for children and adults includes how to identify the appropriate size bike to ride, how to replace the chain, repair a flat tire, and learn to ride on the trails. Registration required. Call 336-373-2481.
Checkmate! Intro to Chess
Saturday, June 13 | Downtown Greenway, Cairn's Course, located between Guilford Avenue and West Friendly Avenue | 9-11 am | Free
A fun, beginner-friendly program that teaches students the basics of chess, including piece movement, rules, and simple strategies. Students will learn directly from instructor and artist Subbora Jackson through interactive lessons and friendly games while building critical thinking, focus, and confidence.
Gospel Day in the Park
Sunday, June 21 | Barber Park, 1500 Barber Park Dr. | 2-5:30 pm | Free
This festival is a concert and reunion bringing together the community through traditional, contemporary, and urban music, song, and dance. Bring your family, and a tailgate chair to sit on.
All About Lavender
Sunday, June 28 | Downtown Greenway, Freedom Cornerstone, at the intersection of Murrow Boulevard and East Gate City Boulevard | 4:30-6:30 pm | Free
Immerse yourself in the world of lavender with a simple craft workshop, and create a beautiful keepsake. Everyone is welcome to come try the unique flavors of lavender coffee and lemonade, take some dried lavender home, and indulge in a variety of lavender goodies from a local farm.
