Indianapolis, Ind. - TheAmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies today announced a $100,000 contribution to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana to expand access to healthy food for children and families across 21 counties in central and southeastern Indiana.
The funds will go to both Gleaners' annual fund and its school-based pantry program, strengthening each community's food safety net and helping ensure families can access support where they live, learn, and work.
"Access to nutritious food is foundational to health, both for individual people and communities as a whole," said Charlene Vickers, AmeriHealth Caritas Director of Community Impact. "The contribution and our partnership with Gleaners will help families find food where they live and learn by supporting the networks that make that possible. And when food is available, health improves, families are more stable, and long-term prospects brighten."
The money for school-based pantries will support bringing food directly to students and their families in trusted, familiar settings, reducing barriers related to transportation, time, and stigma, and helping to fill gaps for those who rely on school meals.
"Hungry kids have difficulty focusing and reaching their full potential in school. AmeriHealth Caritas support of our efforts to feed children and their families through our school-based pantry network will ensure that access to nutritious food is available to all families in an accessible location," said Fred Glass, president and CEO of Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.
Gleaners, part of the Feeding America network, distributed approximately 51.6 million meals in its service area in fiscal year 2025, including about 1.9 million meals through 60 pantries in schools.
Feeding America data shows 1 in 7 Hoosiers face challenges with food security, a key social driver of health.
