Medical doctor and Hoover Institute visiting fellow Dr. Brian Miller has been named as the Vice Chairman of the North Carolina State Health Plan (Plan) Board of Trustees. This announcement was made by Treasurer and Board Chairman Brad Briner, who told fellow trustees, "Pursuant to my authority under the Board's bylaws: I am delegating specific duties as chairperson to Dr. Brian Miller when I am absent from our meetings. Within this delegation Dr. Miller will have the title of Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees."
"Dr. Miller brings a strong record of leadership, expertise and commitment to public service, and I am confident he will serve the Board with distinction in this role," said Treasurer Briner. "We need forward thinkers, who understand policy and the intricacies of health care today. Dr. Miller is dedicated and motivated to help us serve our State Health Plan members in the best way possible."
Dr. Miller is a practicing hospitalist at Johns Hopkins Hospital, is a licensed physician in North Carolina, advises Congress on the Medicare program and is published in the Harvard Business Review and New England Journal of Medicine.
"Our members work hard to take care of all of us by keeping the state running smoothly," said Dr. Miller. "It is my privilege to step into a leadership role and support Treasurer Briner and the entire team in working together to ensure that our workers have affordable health care for themselves and their families."
Dr. Miller is also serving as the chair of the Plan's new Medical Policy Advisory Committee.
