Participation of Undersecretary of State Giorgio Silli at the 38th International Meeting for Peace 2024.

From 22 to 23 September, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli participated in the 38th International Meeting for Peace 2024, organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio and the Archdiocese of Paris: held for the first time in the French capital, the event was an opportunity to discuss the main current geopolitical challenges, along the common thread "imagining peace".

Speaking at the Panel "Which Europe in the Future", Undersecretary Silli focused on the importance of concretely listening to others' demands, reaffirming the principles that guide the European Union's action in foreign policy, focused on respect for the principles of the rule of law and the founding values of liberal democracy, on the primacy of human rights and fundamental freedoms over "reasons of State", and on adherence to the principles and rules of international law, starting with the UN Charter.

In this regard, Undersecretary Silli recalled Italy's commitment to multilateralism and the founding policy lines of Italian action for the reform of the United Nations, with the aim of helping to ensure that the future Security Council is more democratic, representative, effective and accountable towards all UN Member States.
