Taft attorneys Melissa Macchia and Megan Van Pelt authored the article "Despite challenges, pregnant workers law remains in effect," published in The Indiana Lawyer on March 6, 2026. Macchia is co-chair of Taft's Employment and Labor Relations practice group. She focuses her practice on employment law, with a particular emphasis on the prevention and defense of employment-based litigation. Macchia routinely advises clients on issues surrounding employment-related agreements and restrictive covenants, best practices in hiring, discipline and terminations, reductions in force, wage and hour matters, employee compensation, medical leave, and accommodations. Melissa also negotiates employment-based contracts and issues in connection with mergers and acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
Van Pelt is an associate in Taft's Employment and Labor Relations practice group and represents employers in labor and employment litigation matters, including preventative advising and counseling. She has experience representing employers in individual, class, and collective employment actions brought in state and federal court, including cases involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, failure to accommodate disabilities, breach of contract, wage and hour and a variety of other statutory and common law claims.
