ADL 421564 UA Land Use Permit Application for Poker Flats

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: University of Alaska/Geophysical Institute

PROJECT NAME: ADL 421564

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
Poker Flat Research Range, north of Fairbanks. Fall out zone stretching north of Fairbanks to the Beaufort Sea, between the Dalton Highway and the Canadian border.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
The Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW) received a Land Use Permit (LUP) application from University of Alaska/Geophysical Institute for continued use of the Poker Flats Research Range. The proposed permit would be for the recovery of rocket debris and as a payload impact safety area for booster stage rockets. The area to be utilized is specifically state-owned lands within numerous townships throughout the Northern Region.

Permits have been issued since 1994, under LAS 19102, with no known issues. DMLW is proposing to authorize the activity under a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP) with a term of 18 years.

REQUESTED TERM: Eighteen-year term

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above.
