Colorado Christian University Hosts "AI for Humanity" Summit on Faith, Technology, and Human Flourishing

Colorado Christian University (CCU) in conjunction with the Christian Post and Gloo, recently hosted the AI for Humanity: Faith & Technology Summit, convening national leaders in technology, ministry and higher education to explore how Christians can engage artificial intelligence with biblical conviction, ethical clarity and a vision for human flourishing.

The event also marked the dedication of CCU's Quarry Innovation Lab, a new center andcollaborative learning space designed to explore the intersection of faith, technology, and human creativity.

"This is not a moment for fear - it's a moment for formation," said CCU President Eric K. Hogue. "As believers, we are called to engage culture courageously and creatively, ensuring technology is safe and representative of our western conservative values and biblical worldview."

Faith and Technology in Conversation

Key participants in the Summit included Pat Gelsinger (Executive Chairman and Head of Technology at Gloo; and former Intel CEO), Brandon Showalter (Journalist and Podcast Host, The Christian Post), Steele Billings (President, Gloo AI), Nick Skytland (Vice President, Gloo Developers), and Dr. Richard Land (The Christian Post; Theologian and President Emeritus, Southern Evangelical Seminary)

Gelsinger reflected on the divine timing of innovation throughout history - comparing the Roman roads of Jesus' time and Gutenberg's printing press to the modern rise of AI.

"When Christ came, the Roman roads were the greatest technology of the age - the Word could literally travel to the world," Gelsinger said. "Five hundred years later, the printing press carried the written Word to every home. Today, AI carries the digital word to every screen. The question is: will we shape it for good?"

Building "Values-Aligned" AI

Representatives from Gloo shared research on values-aligned AI-technology designed to reflect biblical ethics, promote human dignity, and support the Church's mission. They presented data from their Flourishing AI Benchmark, which evaluates how large language models align with holistic human wellbeing (including the key dimension of faith).

"AI must serve human flourishing, not diminish it," said Nick Skytland, Vice President, Gloo Developers. "We have a moral responsibilityto build systems that uphold truth, protect life and advance spiritual formation."

Dr. Michael Arena, Dean of the Crowell School of Business at Biola Universityand a leading scholar on adaptive leadership and organizational transformation, joined the discussion on the importance of moral formation in Christian higher education:

"That's why the humanities matter-they form the people who form the machines."

Rev. Dr. Justin R. Lester closed the summit with a message of trust and courage:

"The future is a memory to God. Nothing surprises Him-not even artificial intelligence. Our calling is to trust the Lord, to create with courage, and to bring light into the world."

The AI for Humanity: Faith & Technology Summit and the dedication of the Quarry Innovation Lab underscore CCU's enduring mission to prepare leaders who think deeply, live faithfully and serve courageously in every sphere of influence. As technology continues to redefine the human experience, Colorado Christian University stands at the forefront-championing innovation that honors God and empowers people for generations to come.
