Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles [MoS], paid an official visit to the Republic of Costa Rica (8-10 May 2026), Republic of Honduras (10-11 May 2026), Belize (12-13 May 2026) and Commonwealth of Dominica (14-15 May 2026).
2. In Costa Rica, MoS represented India at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of Ms. Laura Virginia Fernández Delgado, the newly elected President of the Republic of Costa Rica. On the sidelines, he met the new Foreign Minister Mr. Manuel Tovar and Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications, Ms. Paula Bogantes. He interacted with the Indian diaspora, reaffirming the Government of India's commitment to the welfare of Indians abroad. At the University of Peace, he paid floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, inaugurated the 'Vasudeva Kutumbakam' wall, and planted a sapling under the "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" initiative.
3. His visit to Republic of Honduras, was the first high-level visit from India following the formation of the new Government in Honduras in January 2026. During the visit, he held productive meetings with Ms Maria Antonieta Mejia, First Vice-President of the Republic of Honduras; Ms Mireya Agüero, Ambassador, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Mr. Yasser Handal Carcamo, Secretary of State, Secretariat of Culture, Art and Heritage of Honduras. He also interacted with the members of the Indian community.
4. During the visit to Belize, MoS called on Ms. Dame Froyla Tzalam, Governor General of Belize and discussed bilateral cooperation. He had bilateral meetings with members of the Cabinet and prominent people from other walks of life. He interacted with the members of the Indian diaspora. He paid tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the University of Belize campus in Belmopan and also paid homage at the statue of Father of the Nation of Belize, Rt. Hon. George Price.
5. During his visit to Commonwealth of Dominica, MoS called on President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Ms Sylvanie Burton DAH. and Acting Prime Minister & Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security Dr. Irving Mclnytyre and discussed bilateral cooperation. He subsequently held bilateral talks with Dr. Vince Henderson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy. Two MoUs regarding recognization of Indian Pharmacopeia and QIP were also signed. He visited the sites for implementation of Quick Impact Projects under India's Grant Assistance and India - UNDP Project for strengthening of Community resilience in Kalinago territory. He handed over backyard gardening tool kits to vulnerable households of the community and planted a sapling under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" Initiative.
6. The visit to four countries reinforced India's commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and further advancing India's engagement with Central America and Caribbean region. This visit came at an important time when India is intensifying its partnerships with the countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
