More than 1 million eggs are being delivered to communities across Hawaiʻi as a direct result of the state's participation in a nationwide antitrust enforcement action against some of the country's largest egg producers.

The 90,000 dozen eggs - approximately 1.08 million - are being distributed statewide through Hawaiʻi Foodbank, Hawai'i Foodbank - Kaua'i, Maui Food Bank and The Food Basket (Hawaiʻi Island), with Hawaiʻi Foodservice Alliance providing logistics support to receive, store and transport the shipments.

As of September 14, seven pallets have been delivered on Oʻahu, the first pallet has arrived on Maui and two pallets have been delivered to Kona. Additional deliveries are scheduled for Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, Kauaʻi and Hilo as the statewide distribution continues over the coming weeks.

The eggs are being provided by Arizona-based Hickman's Family Farms in connection with an antitrust case brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and 17 state attorneys general, including Hawaiʻi. The investigation alleged that egg producers coordinated to manipulate a widely used egg-price benchmark, contributing to higher prices for retailers and consumers.

"When companies illegally manipulate prices, Hawaiʻi families pay the price at the checkout counter," said Attorney General Lopez. "This settlement holds these producers accountable and helps ensure that essential food items remain accessible to families and communities in Hawaiʻi and across the nation."

The Hawaiʻi distribution is part of a broader nationwide settlement that secured 53 million eggs for food banks and nonprofit organizations across participating states, along with $3.3 million in payments from the egg producers. The settlement also requires companies to implement measures designed to prevent future anticompetitive conduct.

Through coordination among the Department of the Attorney General, Hawaiʻi Foodservice Alliance, Hawaiʻi's food banks and their community partners, the enforcement action is putting fresh, nutritious food directly into communities across the state.
