Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance launches new website

The Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance has launched a new website to share important information and resources with the public. The site, in development since late 2025, functions as a robust archive, database and community calendar. From videos of Alliance stakeholder meetings to local crime statistics, it allows users to explore the growing library of materials that serve to support and advance local gun violence prevention efforts.

The Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance was established in 2024 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Gainesville, Alachua County and Santa Fe College. The idea emerged from District 1 City Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker's February 2023 motion declaring gun violence as a public health crisis, in which she put forward the idea of creating a community partnership to serve as a hub of collaboration, information-sharing and coordinated action.

"From the beginning, this work has been about listening to the people most affected by violence and making sure their voices are heard," said Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker. "The new website is instrumental in moving those conversations forward. It gives all neighbors a chance to learn about the work, get involved and chart our progress."

The website is the latest step forward for the Alliance, which over the past two years has led monthly stakeholder meetings, developed a countywide strategic plan, and supported the administration of grant-funded programs to support youth and families. The website brings new accessibility to the work of the Alliance, creating an online repository where neighbors can learn about prevention efforts, review strategic planning documents, watch archived meeting videos, and discover how to participate in upcoming activities.

"The website gives our community a place to stay connected to this work," said Gainesville Gun Violence Intervention Program Manager Brittany Coleman. "Reducing gun violence requires sustained engagement. This platform lets us share information so everyone can easily monitor what's being done across Gainesville and Alachua County."

Whether holding annual events in observance of Gun Violence Awareness Month or hosting live performances and town halls, the Alliance continues building momentum around shared priorities and working to fulfill the policy direction set by members of the city and county commissions.

The site now serves as a one-stop shop for all information connected to community gun violence and the larger issues of awareness and prevention. Along with datasets from the Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, users will find links to emergency services, crisis resources and volunteer opportunities. Upcoming events and meetings are prominently displayed, with additional content to be added as the Alliance continues its work and expands community engagement efforts.

Neighbors are invited to visit the new digital resource, which is now included in the Public Safety & Gun Violence Prevention section of the City of Gainesville website.
