Britt Crow-Miller, senior lecturer in the College of Natural Sciences, is the author of a new book for young readers, "World of Rot," that takes readers on a deep dive into the process of decay, from the science behind it to an up-close and personal look at the organisms that do the dirty work to make our planet livable.<_o3a_p>

Crow-Miller, who lectures in the Departments of Environmental Conservation and Earth, Geographic, and Climate Sciences, is the founding director of CityWild, a nonprofit organization with the mission of inspiring curiosity about the natural world through fun, exploration and hands-on learning for kids and families, including those in underserved and historically marginalized communities.<_o3a_p>

Released by Storey Publishing, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, the book uses humor and quirky full-color illustrations by Bruno Valasse to teach kids about the life-recycling system happening all around us-in the sea, the soil and even within our own bodies. It includes profiles of decomposers such as fungi, worms, butterflies and slugs, and explains the heroic role decomposers might play in fighting climate change and eating plastic.

The book is available to purchase directly from Hachette and from booksellers everywhere.<_o3a_p>
