WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Davis (NC-01) met with local officials across six coastal counties, including Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Dare, Hyde, and Pamlico, to discuss capital improvement priorities and explore opportunities for federal investment through Fiscal Year 2027 Community Project Funding. He also announced that he had received funding requests from communities across North Carolina's First Congressional District, including its 22 existing counties and the newly added coastal communities.
For Fiscal Year 2026, Congressman Davis secured nearly $54 million for 15 projects across nine eastern North Carolina counties.
"As we welcome new coastal communities into North Carolina's First Congressional District, it is essential that we listen, learn, and understand their funding priorities," said Congressman Don Davis."We must deliver for eastern North Carolina families, and these visits will help ensure our coastal communities have a seat at the table as we work to continue bringing home real results for our region."
Beaufort County: Congressman Davis began his tour in Washington, North Carolina, with a visit to Beaufort County Emergency Services, where he met with local emergency officials to discuss the critical role of reliable communication in emergency response. The conversation focused on the need to upgrade mobile radios for Fire and EMS personnel to ensure seamless coordination during high-stakes situations. Strengthening this technology will better equip first responders to act quickly and effectively, helping keep Beaufort County residents safe.
Pamlico County: In Oriental, Congressman Davis met with local leaders and residents to hear concerns about persistent flooding along Hodges Street. The issue is damaging critical infrastructure and disrupting harbor events that are vital to the town's tourism and community life.
Craven County: In Havelock, home to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Congressman Davis met with Mayor Will Lewis and local leaders to discuss priorities for the community. The conversation highlighted the importance of supporting military families who call Havelock home and the need to improve the city's wastewater system.
Carteret County: In Morehead City, Congressman Davis met with city officials to discuss the community's continued growth and the challenges that come with it. The conversation focused on the need to expand sewer capacity on the west end, where rapid residential and commercial development is placing increasing strain on existing wastewater infrastructure.
Dare County: In Nags Head, Congressman Davis met with officials to discuss public safety needs and emergency preparedness. Local leaders emphasized the importance of acquiring a new fire pumper to strengthen response capabilities and ensure firefighters are equipped to protect Nags Head and many surrounding Outer Banks communities.
Hyde County:In Swan Quarter, Congressman Davis met with county officials to discuss key priorities affecting the community, including ongoing concerns along North Carolina Highway 12, the need to strengthen erosion control efforts, and plans to revitalize the historic Davis School in Engelhard to expand educational opportunities, workforce training, and community programs.
On October 22, 2025, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted Senate Bill 249: Realign Congressional Districts 2025 (S.L. 2025-95).
