Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus M.Ryzhenkov visits Myanmar

On January 9, 2025 on an official visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister, Union Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Than Swe.

The parties stated close positions on a number of international issues, discussed the state of play of the bilateral relations, defined areas of cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as outlined a schedule of contacts for the current year.

The Ministers agreed to focus on completing drafts of some bilateral documents, and continue development of the bilateral legal framework.

Trade and economic cooperation was in focus of the meeting with the Chairman of the Myanmar Economic Corporation, Nyo Saw, the Union Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Kan Zaw, and the Union Minister of Commerce, Tun Ohn.

With a view to strengthening positive dynamics of the mutual trade growth, Maxim Ryzhenkov suggested intensifying the activities of Belarus-Myanmar Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Furthermore, the parties discussed harmonization and implementation of bilateral projects in industry, agriculture, and other areas. A Memorandum of Intent for Joint Action on the Development of Belarusian-Myanmar Cooperation was initialed.

The outcomes of the first day of the Belarusian delegation's visit were summarized by the Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing, at his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Belarus. The Myanmar leader welcomed the visit and reiterated the focus on comprehensive cooperation with the Republic of Belarus. Serious attention was paid to issues of mutual trade, diversification of supplies, cooperation ties, education, science, and mass media.

On January 9, 2025, representatives of ministries and enterprises who arrived in Myanmar as part of the Belarusian delegation held a number of meetings with Myanmar colleagues and partners in the cities of Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon.
