Emergency Conflagration Act invoked for Wrights Spring Fire in Klamath County

The Emergency Conflagration Act was invoked Friday morning for the Wrights Spring Fire burning southeast of Chiloquin in Klamath County. The Oregon State Fire Marshal is mobilizing its Green Incident Management Team and six structural task forces. Two of the task forces were prepositioned in Douglas County ahead of forecasted increase in fire danger.

The Klamath County Sheriff's Office has issued level 1 and 2 evacuation notices for the area. Those looking for information about evacuations can follow the sheriff's office on social media or check the county's emergency management website.

The Wrights Spring Fire was reported on August 5 in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The fire grew rapidly overnight pushed by extremely dry and windy conditions. As of Friday morning, it was estimated to be 8,722 acres and 0 percent contained. Federal wildland firefighters and air resources are working to slow the fire.

"We have been working with the local fire agencies and interagency partners since this incident was first reported," Assistant Chief Deputy Mariah Rawlins said. "This fire has seen extreme growth and at the request of the fire defense board chief and county commissioner we are immediately engaging."

The National Weather Service has heat advisories in place for the region. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for the Lower Columbia River Basin. Oregonians and visitors should pay attention to these conditions and take steps to prevent sparking an unintended wildfire.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal Green Incident Management Team will be in unified command with Northwest Team 8. This is the 12^th time the Emergency Conflagration Act has been invoked in 2026.
