Cary, NC - In preparation for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship Finals, Cary completed a comprehensive renovation of Coleman Field, the competition field at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The double-elimination tournament runs May 29-June 6 and is co-hosted by the University of Mount Olive, with teams from 16 super regional sites to competing for a national title.
Driven by the natural end-of-life of the field's original systems after 20 years of use, the Coleman Field renovation project was a ground-up effort that replaced the field's drainage lines, irrigation infrastructure, rootzone material, and surface turf. A new 10-inch sand-based field surface improves playability, while upgraded drainage systems help the field drain faster and more efficiently.
Additionally, the playing surface was replanted with Tif Tuf Bermuda, a wear-resistant natural turf variety, and all dirt areas received a full profile of DuraEdge Professional infield mix. The irrigation system was fully redesigned, allowing maintenance crews to make repairs quickly without disturbing the field surface. Other improvements include revamped bullpens, new warning-track material, replaced foul-territory fencing, and new safety padding.
Super regional winners will advance to the Cary finals beginning May 29. For more information on the 2026 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship and events at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, visit carync.gov/baseball.
