FedEx, Direct Relief Strengthen Medical Support Efforts in Mexico

MEXICO CITY - FedEx and Direct Relief continue strengthening their humanitarian collaboration through initiatives in Mexico focused on emergency preparedness and response. As part of these efforts, FedEx Mexico will transport 30 emergency medical backpacks to support response capacity at temporary sites and strategic locations near venues hosting major international events. This initiative aims to contribute to medical care efforts amid the increase in visitors and mobility expected in Mexican cities over the coming months.

FedEx and Direct Relief share a longstanding humanitarian collaboration spanning more than 20 years, focused on improving access to critical medical aid during disasters and emergencies around the world. By combining Direct Relief's global health expertise with FedEx's logistics capabilities, the organizations have helped deliver essential supplies to vulnerable communities affected by crises, natural disasters, and public health emergencies.

In a country constantly exposed to natural disasters and public health challenges, response capacity can make the difference between urgency and timely care. Over the past four years in Mexico, FedEx has leveraged its logistics expertise to support Direct Relief's humanitarian efforts contributing to the transportation of medical aid and essential supplies for communities affected by emergencies across different regions of Mexico.

In just one of the most recent phases of this collaboration, between June 2022 and May 2026, FedEx allocated $825,000 to strengthen emergency preparedness and response across different regions of the country. This effort made it possible to equip 22 partner organizations, respond to at least 10 emergencies, and deliver medical supplies to communities in states such as Baja California, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, Coahuila, Colima, Jalisco, and Nayarit.

Thanks to these joint efforts, these resources have played a key role in responding to events such as Hurricanes Hilary and Otis, the floods caused by tropical storms, dengue outbreaks, and support for migrant populations in the northern part of the country, demonstrating the importance of having medical supplies available before, during, and after an emergency.

One of the most significant outcomes of this collaboration has been the delivery of more than 230 emergency medical backpacks to frontline health workers responding to Hurricane Otis in Acapulco. In addition, the ongoing distribution of medical and emergency kits has helped strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities across the country. Together, these efforts have enhanced the ability of communities, organizations, and local authorities to respond to emergencies and public health challenges.

"At FedEx, we believe logistics goes far beyond the movement of packages. It is also the ability to deliver aid where it is needed, to help change someone's story. And that becomes even more relevant in contexts where response capacity can make a real difference in people's lives," said Jorge Torres, Vice President of Operations at FedEx Mexico.

"Large public events place significant pressure on local emergency response systems, making preparedness and rapid access to medical supplies especially important," said Eduardo Mendoza, Country Director of Direct Relief Mexico. "These emergency medical backpacks are designed to help frontline responders provide immediate care in high-traffic settings where large crowds and increased mobility can heighten the risk of medical emergencies. Through our longstanding collaboration with FedEx, we are helping ensure critical medical resources can be positioned quickly and strategically to support the health and well-being of communities across Mexico."

As part of the most recent actions under this collaboration, and in response to the increase in mobility and concentration of people expected in various cities across the country over the coming months, FedEx Mexico will transport these 30 emergency medical backpacks to the offices of the Operational Center for Contingency Response, or COPAC. The backpacks will be available to support medical care and response efforts at temporary care sites and strategic high-traffic locations. These backpacks are expected to help provide care to approximately 3,000 people, strengthening medical response capacity in high-density scenarios.

Beyond the numbers, this collaboration demonstrates how logistics can become a key enabler of humanitarian aid, leveraging supply chains to serve those who need it most.

Today, after 4 years of working together in Mexico, FedEx and Direct Relief have demonstrated that combining efforts can translate into tangible and lasting impact. Both organizations will continue working together to expand the reach of equipment and supplies in emergency situations, strengthen preparedness for natural disasters and emergencies, and continue generating a positive impact on the most vulnerable communities in Mexico
