Capt. Thaddaeus Carr was promoted to major during a ceremony on Oct. 18 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois, recognizing his military service, professional development and contributions to military intelligence.
Carr enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard in 2014 as a 92A automated logistical specialist before commissioning as a military intelligence officer through Officer Candidate School in 2017. Throughout his career, he has served in several leadership and staff positions, including human intelligence platoon leader, battalion intelligence officer, company commander and battalion executive officer.
"As I put on major, I'm thankful for everyone who has helped prepare me for the responsibility that comes with it," Carr said. "I continue to learn, holding myself accountable, and giving our Soldiers the same kind of support so many of you have given me."
Carr serves as the battalion officer in charge and operations officer with the 217th Military Intelligence Battalion, where he contributes to the development and operational readiness of the unit.
His military career is supported by an academic background in industrial management and data analytics. Carr earned a bachelor's degree in industrial management from Northern Illinois University in 2013, followed by two master's degrees: one in data analytics in 2022 and another in aviation management.
"There is no knowledge that is not power," said Carr, quoting his favorite video game, Mortal Kombat. "In military intelligence, that idea has real meaning. What we learn can help a commander make a better decision, help a unit prepare and help protect our Soldiers."
Carr's promotion marks another milestone in his military career, recognizing his years of service and experience in logistics and military intelligence. As a major, he will continue to apply his leadership and expertise in support of the Illinois Army National Guard's mission.
Carr was joined by family members and fellow Soldiers for the ceremony, marking the occasion with those who have supported him throughout his military career.
As he assumes the responsibilities of his new rank, Carr will continue to support the Army National Guard's mission through leadership, military intelligence operations and the development of Soldiers.
