WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement:
"The American people want corruption and big money out of politics. That's why I don't trade individual stocks, I never have and I never will, as long as I am an elected official.
I believe Citizens United must be overturned, and I support real reforms like the Restore Trust in Congress Act and the Restore Trust in Government Act. Both bills would ban stock trading by the President, Vice President, Members of Congress, their spouses, and senior staff.
H.R. 7008 does the opposite, preserving opportunities for government corruption while attaching extreme voting restrictions that would make it harder for eligible Americans - including seniors, military members, women, and people with disabilities - to cast their ballots. It's clearly an attempt to sabotage our elections, sow doubt in American democracy, and make elected officials less accountable to the people they serve."
