Silver Cross Hospital has earned multiple distinctions from Healthgrades for 2027, including being named No. 1 in Illinois for Gastrointestinal Surgery and No. 2 in Illinois for Surgical Care, recognizing the hospital's exceptional clinical outcomes and leadership across a broad range of surgical specialties.
The honors further position Silver Cross among the nation's top-performing hospitals for surgical care and reflect its continued investment in advanced technology, innovation, and patient outcomes.
In addition to its statewide rankings, Silver Cross Hospital was named one of Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Surgery and America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries as well as ranking among the nation's top 10% for cardiac surgery. The hospital also received top honors for stroke care and pulmonary care, demonstrating surgical excellence across multiple service lines.

National Surgical Recognition
"These recognitions reflect the extraordinary skill, dedication and compassion of the surgeons, anesthesia providers and advanced practice providers on our medical staff, as well as our surgical nurses, technologists, and all who support them," said Michael Mutterer, RN, MA, LCPC, CADC, LNHA, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital. "Being named the No. 1 hospital in Illinois for gastrointestinal surgery and No. 2 in Illinois for surgical care is especially meaningful because it represents the collective efforts of hundreds of caregivers working together to deliver the highest-quality outcomes for our patients TOGETHER. We're honored by these distinctions and grateful for the trust our community places in us."
The awards come as Silver Cross continues to make significant investments in surgical innovation. In July of this year, the hospital completed an $8.5 million modernization of all 11 operating room suites, equipped with advanced surgical equipment, enhanced LED lighting, integrated patient data technology and ultra-clear 4K imaging. Designed to support greater precision, efficiency and collaboration, the renovation reflects the hospital's commitment to remaining at the forefront of surgical excellence for decades to come.
That commitment is also evident in the hospital's nationally recognized Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery, one of the busiest robotic surgery programs in the Midwest. The institute is home to six da Vinci robotic surgery systems, including two next-generation da Vinci 5 platforms, and has successfully performed more than 21,000 robotic-assisted procedures with excellent outcomes. Through robotic-assisted surgery, patients experience smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries.
"Achieving excellence across so many specialties does not happen by accident," added M. Salah Lababidy, M.D., President of the Silver Cross Medical Staff. "It requires outstanding surgeons, exceptional clinical teams, advanced technology, and a relentless commitment to quality. These achievements also reflect the strong culture of collaboration at Silver Cross, where physicians and our hospital administration work side by side to continually advance patient care and provide patients with access to world-class care close to home."
Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance using risk-adjusted patient outcomes and recognizes hospitals that consistently deliver superior clinical results. This year's awards highlight Silver Cross Hospital's strength across a broad spectrum of surgical and specialty services, from gastrointestinal and prostate surgery to cardiac, neuroscience and pulmonary care.
New research from Healthgrades reveals the growing influence of hospital quality on healthcare decisions, with 80% of patients who have looked or plan to look for a doctor this year considering the quality of the hospital where their doctor practices. Additionally, when choosing between two doctors for an upcoming procedure, close to 7 in 10 patients (68%) say they're more likely to seek care from a doctor who works at a hospital with high-quality ratings in their procedure or condition.
"For patients and families throughout Will County and the southwest suburbs, these recognitions from Healthgrades provide independent validation that nationally recognized care is available right here in their community," Mutterer added.
