The City of Norman will begin replacing both of its electric drive Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) compressors at the public/private fueling station, located at 2351 Goddard Ave., the week of July 21, 2025. Work is expected to be complete by August 29, 2025. Temporary service interruptions may occur during the installation process.
The current CNG compressors are at the end of their useful life and continue to have ongoing maintenance and reliability challenges. The upgrade supports Norman's growing fleet of over 157 CNG-powered vehicles and provides the public continued access to low-cost fueling. In the past year alone, the City has used nearly 364,000 gallons of CNG, saving an estimated $500,000 in fuel costs compared to gasoline and diesel.
This project is funded through the ACOG Public Fleet Conversion Grant Program following the City Council's approval of Resolution R-2324-48 on September 12, 2023. The City of Norman's application ranked first among nine projects funded by ACOG in February 2024, securing $1.14 million toward the estimated $1.42 million project cost. The remaining $284,000 will be covered through local match funding. Reimbursement will occur upon project completion, as approved by the Council on March 26, 2024.
