The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) invites UAA faculty to to participate in the upcoming Quality Matters "Improving your Online Course" (IYOC) workshop.
Typically this is held as a full day or two half-days on Zoom, but to allow for a variety of learners and scheduling demands, CAFE is offering this asynchronous option for faculty across the UA system. This workshop session will be held over the course of two weeks, from July 28 through Aug. 11.
Quality Matters (QM) is a nationally recognized program designed to help faculty reflect on and improve their online course. Grounded in research and guided by best practices, this program has been invaluable to faculty in a wide range of disciplines.
The Improving Your Online Course workshop explores the 7th edition of the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online courses. Participants use the QM Rubric to review one of their own online courses and develop a course improvement plan. Many faculty take this workshop multiple times focusing on different courses. It can be a great opportunity to take a closer look at one of their courses going into the fall semester, or as they are looking at transitioning a course to Ultra.
These workshops cover a significant amount of valuable material, so in order to complete it, CAFE encourages faculty to plan to devote a minimum of 8-10 hours of work over the course of two weeks, with due dates for small assignments and discussions at the end of each week.
Completing this training satisfies UAA's Teaching Online training requirement, demonstrating expertise in best practices associated with asynchronous online instruction and teaching effectiveness. In addition, this workshop covers accessibility which helps faculty meet UAA's accessibility policy.
CAFE asks faculty register for the asynchronous IYOC by July 21.
