On January 16, 2026, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The two sides exchanged views on the international economic and trade situation and ways to deepen cooperation.
Ambassador Jia noted that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China reviewed and adopted the recommendations for formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan, setting out arrangements to advance high-quality development and high-level opening-up. Facing the headwind of unilateralism and protectionism, the Plan will inject stability and certainty into the world economy. China stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with UNCTAD and to work together to bring development issues back to the center of the international agenda.
Secretary-General Grynspan welcomed Ambassador Jia on the assumption of his post and spoke highly of China's governance experience in adhering to long-term development planning and maintaining policy continuity and stability. She expressed UNCTAD's expectation to further expand cooperation with China, promote South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue, and make positive contributions to inclusive and sustainable development.
