City of Montgomery Announces the 2026 Mayor’s Internship Program: Applications Open April 6

The City of Montgomery is pleased to announce that 30 students will be selected to participate in the 2026 Mayor's Internship Program (MIP), an immersive opportunity offering hands-on experience and exposure to municipal government operations.

The 10-week paid internship will run from June 8 to August 21, 2026. Interns must be available for the full duration of the program and are required to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, with the opportunity to work up to 37.5 hours per week depending on departmental needs.

Mayor Steven L. Reed said Montgomery's future depends on the passion and creativity of young leaders, and the Mayor's Internship Program is one of the best ways we invest in that potential.

"This program gives students a true seat at the table, an opportunity to help drive progress, serve their community, and see firsthand how local government can create meaningful change," Reed said. "We look forward to welcoming the next class of young innovators who will help move Montgomery forward."

Participants will support City managers across multiple departments; including Finance, Communications, Economic Development, Neighborhood Services, Grants, Information Technology, and Cultural Affairs; by contributing to research projects, preparing presentations, drafting reports, assisting with administrative tasks, supporting constituent engagement, analyzing data, helping with grant applications, and aiding in the planning of City events.
