Food systems encompass a wide range of sub-systems that produce, process, package and move food to consumers. This network, however, is vulnerable to different factors, from climate shocks and changing weather patterns, conflict, energy prices and economic disruptions. The consequences ripple, not just in rising prices of goods in markets, but also in meeting the nutritional needs of millions of people.

"Beyond the label: How organic agriculture drives sustainable food systems" brings together speakers from different networks of food systems to talk about how the world can meet food security and nutritional needs while remaining economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.

Some questions and topics that will be tackled include:

  • What is the main motivation for farmers to shift to organic farming practices?
  • What kind of policies will make a difference to transition to more inclusive and sustainable food systems?
  • Why is the private sector investing in organic? And what are the common obstacles and challenges encountered in investing in organic?

Joining the panel is a representative from BIOFACH and NürnbergMesse. BIOFACH 2027, which will take place on 16 - 19 February 2027 in Nuremberg, will gather organic food producers, policymakers, researchers and actors who affect the food systems in a sustainable way. The Congress will focus on "Securing Food Systems - The Organic Way."
