Sharing the Land: Wildlife, Grazing, and Staying Safe

As the weather warms up, nature gets a little more active, making now a good time to stay alert and give wildlife and grazing animals plenty of space.

Rattlesnakes become more active as temperatures rise, often seeking out sunny, open areas to bask. If you encounter a snake on the trail, give it space and do not attempt to touch or move it. Staying on designated trails and keeping a watchful eye on the path ahead can help you avoid unwanted surprises.

You may also see cattle grazing in various parts of the watershed. Don't be alarmed - these cows are helping manage the landscape by reducing wildfire risk and promoting healthy biodiversity. Occasionally, cows may wander onto access roads or near trailheads, so please drive cautiously and follow posted speed limits.

From rattlesnakes to cattle, the land is home to many species, wild and domestic. By staying alert, we can all enjoy a safer day outdoors. Learn more about wildlife and lands at Los Vaqueros.
