What’s Happening in Hollywood

There's a lot going on across the City of Hollywood, from environmental milestones to major construction updates and long-awaited openings. Here's a look at some of the latest news and happenings:

Turtle Nesting Season in Full Swing

Hollywood Beach is in the height of sea turtle nesting season, and the numbers speak for themselves. Around 110 nests have been recorded so far along our shoreline, representing all three species that nest here annually: the leatherback, loggerhead, and green sea turtles.

In addition to these nests, there have also been around 154 "false crawls" identified. A false crawl occurs when a female turtle emerges onto the beach but returns to the water without laying eggs-often due to disturbance or unsuitable nesting conditions.

Everyone can help reduce false crawls and protect nesting turtles. For tips on how to keep our beach turtle-friendly, visit Broward County's Natural Resources Division.

Charles Vollman Park Rock House Update

Construction at Charles Vollman Park's Rock House is moving forward on schedule. The pavilion structure and concrete slab have been completed. Next, the reinforced concrete wall will be poured to strengthen the preserved west wall from the original structure. Once that's complete, work will begin on the roof and joints. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project progresses.

ArtsPark Movie Nights Postponed

ArtsPark Movie Nights are on a temporary pause from July 4 through September 12 due to a lawn replacement project. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve this vibrant community space. Movie Nights will return this fall-check our event listings for updates.

Justice Skatepark Now Open

The wait is over! Justice Skatepark at Stan Goldman Park is officially open to the public. While the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for August, the skatepark is already welcoming skaters of all skill levels. Come enjoy this dynamic new recreational space.

Art and Culture Center Expansion Underway

Major progress is taking place in Downtown Hollywood at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. Construction is underway on a nearly 5,000-square-foot arts education wing that will soon offer state-of-the-art classrooms, a multi-purpose space for dance, drama, and film, and a beautiful outdoor courtyard. This expansion will strengthen the Center's mission of arts education and community engagement.

Hollywood Beach Golf Course Nears Completion

The Hollywood Beach Golf Course revitalization project is entering its final phase. The course is now in the "grassing phase," which includes seeding, sodding, and sprigging to establish high-quality turf. Six holes have already been grassed.

Irrigation and fertilization systems are also being installed to ensure healthy turf growth. The project remains on track for completion by the end of 2025.
