A major highways scheme to reconstruct a busy roundabout in Burton has been completed.
Staffordshire County Council's highways crews have rebuilt the A5121 Derby Turn roundabout and its approach from the A511 Horninglow Road.
The £810,000 scheme has seen the Derby Road completely resurfaced.
Crews have also been carrying out repairs to drains, kerbs and guardrails.
Added to this, an additional crew has been widening the footpaths and making improvements to pedestrian routes and crossing points on behalf of the county council's Integrated Transport Team. This work will continue over the next month but will have no effect on traffic.
This reflects the geographical approach the county council plans to take with highways works going forward. By tackling multiple highways defects in one go, this will help to keep costs down and reduce the need for repeat visits, meaning less disruption for residents.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:
"I'm pleased to see this important scheme finished on time, and residents will definitely see an improvement to their journeys along this route.
"Our crews have been working hard to minimise disruption, and ensuring that all required works are done simultaneously so residents have not experienced any undue delays. I want to thank drivers for bearing with us while we delivered these necessary works, and hope they see the benefits of smoother journeys going forward."
The work is part of a wider £2.5 million county council investment in Burton to rebuild the route from the A38 Clay Mills junction to Derby Turn in four phases.
