Council Revamps Committee Lineup

The City's list of boards and commissions will be shorter as a result of Council action on Oct. 7.

Council approved these changes:

  • The Hispanic and Immigrant Affairs Board (HIAB) and the African American Affairs Board has been dissolved. The functions of those boards will be addressed by the full Human Relations Commission (HRC);
    • Existing appointees of the HIAB will be incorporated into the HRC. The structure of the reorganized board will be determined through the development of new bylaws and a future work plan; and,
  • The Community Engagement Board has been dissolved.

Previous changes include:

  • The Historic Resources and Museum Advisory Board has merged with the Historic Cemeteries Advisory Board;
  • The Fair Housing Hearing Board has been renamed Fair Housing Advisory Board;
  • The Mayor's Council for Persons with Disabilities has been renamed the Raleigh Commission for Persons with Disabilities; and,
  • The Council will also align members' appointment, term, and removal process with other advisory boards and commissions as outlined in the City Code.

Council Advisory Boards and Commissions will also have a standard bylaw template. Council members serving as liaisons also have common guidance for their role.

Following the final committee recommendations at the Oct. 7 Council meeting, the temporary Special Committee on Council Advisory Boards and Commissions was dissolved.
