REQUESTED ACTIVITY:
The Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW) has received a Land Use Permit (LUP) application from Ocean Renewable Power Company, Inc. (ORPC) for the installation of 4 Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) devices anchored temporarily to state submerged lands near Old Harbor, Goodnews Bay, Stebbins, and Yakutat. These ADCP devices collect data for verifying tidal flows in Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) communities. One ADCP device would be deployed per marine community for one full tidal cycle (approximately 35 days) during the summer of 2025. The ADCP device would consist of a gravity-based anchor, the ADCP unit with associated bottom mount structure, and an attached mooring line with a high visibility surface buoy to mark the device location. The bottom-mount ADCP, anchoring system, and buoy would be deployed and retrieved over the side of a local vessel. All equipment and buoys would be removed at the end of each tidal cycle.
REQUESTED TERM: 1 year
