Montana State to hold commencement ceremonies May 8

Montana State University's 144th spring commencement ceremonies will be held Friday, May 8, in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.  MSU photo by Kelly Gorham

BOZEMAN - Montana State University expects to confer 2,706 degrees during its 144th spring commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 8, in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. 

MSU will award degrees to 2,108 undergraduate students and 371 graduate students. Gallatin College MSU students will be presented with 227 associate degrees and certificates, according to MSU's  Office of the Registrar. 

Students from the College of Agriculture, Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing and Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering will graduate at 10 a.m. The processional will begin at 9:40 a.m. During the ceremony, Jaynee Drange Groseth and Rolf Stigum Groseth will each receive an honorary doctorate. Alumna Jaynee Drange Groseth held directorial roles in the MSU Office of Admissions and the MSU Alumni Foundation, while Rolf Stigum Groseth served as chancellor of MSU Billings, among several other leadership positions at MSU.

Students from the College of Arts and Architecture, College of Education, Health and Human Development, College of Letters and Science and Gallatin College MSU  will attend afternoon commencement at 2:30 p.m., with the processional beginning at 2:10 p.m. MSU will celebrate the impact of Elizabeth "Betty" McCoy, a home economics alumna and longtime leader of Montana 4-H, with a posthumous honorary doctorate during the ceremony. 

To expedite entry into the commencement ceremonies, the university requests, but does not require, that graduates and guests leave bags and belongings in their vehicles. Cellphones and keys may remain in pockets when passing through metal detectors. 

Both ceremonies will be livestreamed. A link to the live video will be available on MSU's commencement page on the day of the events.
