City Offices to Close in Observance of Upcoming Holidays

Marion City Hall and other City offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Regular business hours resume on Friday, Dec. 26. City offices will also be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1, in observance of the New Year's holiday. Regular business hours resume on Friday, Jan. 2. Police, Fire and other critical City services will continue to be provided.

The Marion Public Library will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as well as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The library's bookmobile will not operate on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.

Garbage and recycling collection will happen according to the normal schedule for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes. It will be delayed by one day for Thursday and Friday routes both weeks, happening Friday and Saturday instead.

The City no longer accepts an extra free bag of garbage the week between the Christmas and New Year's holidays. With the transition to automated curbside collection, residents now have an additional 16- to 32- gallons of capacity in their garbage carts. Those needing additional space should place one extra bag on top of their garbage cart, with a $2.50 extra bag sticker affixed and visible from the street.

Curbside collection of real Christmas trees will be provided from Jan. 5-16, 2026. This service will be provided to all households regardless of whether they subscribe to curbside yard waste service. Trees, free of stands and decorations, should be placed at the curb on the normal collection day. Flocked trees or those in bags will not be collected.

The Yard Waste Facility and Recycling Drop-off Center (195 35th Street) will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1. The facilities will be open regular hours on Saturday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 3, from 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

The Ice Loop in the Central Plaza at City Square Park (1001 7th Avenue) is open daily from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Skate rentals and the warming house are offered during select hours Thursday through Sunday. The Skate Shack and the warming house will not be open on Christmas Eve/Day and New Year's Eve/Day due to the City holidays. Hours will be extended on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 from noon-10 p.m. to provide additional skate rental opportunities over winter break. Visit www.cityofmarion.org/iceloop for more information.
