City of Henderson Receives National Award for Language Access Innovation

Language Assistance Device Helps Residents Access Voting and City Services

HENDERSON, Nev.(Feb. 5, 2026) -The City of Henderson has received the 2026 People's Choice Award from the Election Center for its We Speak Your Language initiative.

The national recognition highlights the City's use of the Instant Language Assistant device at City Hall, the primary voting location, showing how technology can improve access and equity in elections.

"Providing every resident the opportunity to fully participate in the voting process is a top priority," said Henderson City Manager and CEO Stephanie Garcia-Vause. "The Instant Language Assistant helps ensure that language is never a barrier during elections."

The handheld Instant Language Assistant provides real-time, two-way translation in more than 135 languages and dialects through speech and text. It was placed at the voter check-in area for the 2024 General Election, where communication assistance is most often needed.

Election staff received training before early voting, and the device was available throughout early voting and on Election Day. Since the election, the device has been used year-round for other City services including passports, expanding its impact beyond elections.

The Election Center, also known as the National Association for Election Officials, is the largest professional association for election officials in the United States and recognizes excellence and innovation in election administration nationwide.
