Mesa celebrates the arrival of the fall season with a free family-friendly party in the park. The Google Fiber Celebrate Mesa will feature a variety of fun games, carnival rides, entertainment and more. This annual celebration will be on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Red Mountain Multiuse Fields South, 905 N. Sun Valley Blvd.
Celebrate Mesa includes a new addition to Mesa on Wheels - the MEAD (Mobile Education and Discovery) Machine, which is the Arizona Museum of Natural History's (AZMNH) new mobile unit and the flagship for AZMNH's new education outreach and programming, taking the museum to the classroom. It is making its debut at the event at 5:30 p.m. The MEAD Machine is named for Giles Mead and the Mead Foundation to recognize their support of this initiative. The celebration will begin with a brief parade and performance by the Red Mountain High School Marching Band, which will play the original theme from Jurassic Park. Other Mesa on Wheels vehicles on display include M.O.R.E., Parks and Recreation's mobile outdoor educational experience; Parks and Recreation's Fun and Fitness mobile recreation unit; the Mesa Read Runner bookmobile and Mesa Public Library's I Love Mesa Van.
Some of the popular attractions among adults and children alike are the Police, Fire and other heavy working City of Mesa vehicles and equipment. This includes the Mesa Police helicopter and motorcycles, a fire engine, a sanitation truck, a Transportation dump truck and two Valley Metro buses. City of Mesa departments will have booths to offer prizes and information.
Back by popular demand for the third consecutive year will be wrestling from Phoenix Championship Wrestling featuring men and women competing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Other activities include archery tag, Dino crew entertainment (life-like dinosaurs), a rock-climbing wall, kids games, tot spot, bounce houses, face painting and a petting zoo.
Celebrate Mesa will offer live music from the Cassidy Hilgers Trio and from the Disney princesses Tiana, Rapunzel and Cinderella. Battle of the Bands returns featuring five youth bands competing for a grand prize of a studio recording at Stem Recording.
The first 500 households to arrive will receive an exclusive Google Fiber Celebrate Mesa Passport, offering a fun and interactive way to explore select booths. Attendees can complete the passport for a chance to win exciting prizes in a raffle!
Unlimited access to carnival rides (age and height restrictions may apply) is available for $5, including this year's new ride, the Fiberglass Fun Slide!
Google Fiber Celebrate Mesa's food court will offer 17 food trucks selling everything from frybread to crepes to soft pretzels, corn dogs, Asian food and Mexican food.
Arizona Disabled Sports will be selling water and glow items to support upcoming competitions for athletes with disabilities.
Mesa encourages attendees to capture and share their moments by using #CelebrateMesa on Facebook and Instagram.
