DGA Announces New Expand the Map Fund
Today, the Democratic Governors Association is announcing a new Expand the Map Fund to raise additional resources to support Democratic candidates running for governor in challenging races across the country. This will be the DGA's first-ever direct no-overhead fund solely dedicated to further changing the playing field and how Democrats think about what states we can compete in.
In addition to protecting incumbent Democratic governors in tough states like Arizona and holding open Democratic-held states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and more, the DGA has aggressively gone on offense to flip key pickup opportunities in states like Georgia, Iowa, Nevada, and Ohio and beyond. At the same time, strong candidates are making really challenging races competitive all over the country and the new Expand the Map Fund is launching to make sure the DGA is doing even more to be prepared to make a difference if there are real opportunities down the stretch.
"I'm living, breathing proof that Democrats can compete and win anywhere, and that's what the DGA's Expand the Map Fund is all about," said DGA Chair Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. "With strong Democratic candidates running in competitive races across the country, the DGA must be ready to make a difference if we see opportunities in states that people might not expect. As Republicans drive up costs for everyday Americans, the DGA is ready to support Democratic candidates for governor as they make life better for people in 2026 and create a bigger path to win in future election cycles."
The DGA has a long and successful record of competing and winning in red and battleground states. At one point in 2017, there were only 15 Democratic governors. Since then, the DGA has worked hard to grow the ranks of Democratic governors to 24, including winning and holding 7 states that Trump won like Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and more.
