By the end of 2024, Freedom Holding Corp. allocated over KZT 40 billion to finance charitable and sponsorship initiatives. Following the principles of the UN Global Compact, the criteria for project financing were formed in accordance with the focus of national and international initiatives in the field of sustainable development. Thus, the company contributes to the development of culture and sports, creates new opportunities for education, supports youth start-ups, advances social and environmental projects, and actively participates in initiatives to restore and preserve the environment. Among the dozens of projects that received financial support, the TOP-5 largest projects were dedicated to promotion of sports, education, and flood damage restoration in the West Kazakhstan region. These projects account for almost KZT 12 billion (30% of all sponsorship).
Thanks to Freedom's financial support this year, it was possible to strengthen the current team working for the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and attract thousands of chess players, grandmasters, and leading coaches from all over the Republic to the project. This also allowed the Federation to increase the number of chess sections and tournaments, create material and technical conditions for training, and lay a foundation for the cultivation of new champions and the overall development of chess in several regions in the country.
In 2024, we managed to achieve amazing results: almost all the world's leading grandmasters visited Kazakhstan and the country won Asian, world, and international championships. Kazakhstanis competed in 21 tournaments, including the FIDE World Cadet, World Youth, and the 45th Chess Olympiad, where they won a total of 123 medals (43 gold, 43 silver, and 37 bronze) in categories of from U8 to U18. By continuing its systematic work and support, in a few years, the Federation's program will produce a large number of talented individuals, helping Kazakhstan realize its potential as a country of global chess champions. Today Kazakhstan is an active partner of FIDE and a very prominent figure in chess sports by world standards.
The floods in the West Kazakhstan Region in March were the largest in recent years where approximately 250 houses were flooded, and almost 3,000 people were taken to evacuation points. Hundreds of people from the National Guard, rescuers, police officers, Akimat employees, and volunteers were involved in the evacuation work.
Sensing its responsibility to help flood victims, Freedom Holding Corp. expressed its support by transferring KZT 2.9 billion to the account of the Demeu Kazakhstan Kori corporate fund to help reduce the consequences of the floods, restore infrastructure, and build protective dams and embankments.
Moreover, in order to provide assistance to those who found themselves homeless due to flooding, Freedom Holding Corp. employees collected funds in the amount of KZT 161 million which were used to help families and children.
This year, Freedom Holding Corp. acted as the General Partner of the Kazakhstan Collegiate Programming Federation in their participation in the final of one of the largest international competitions in the IT sphere, the ICPC World Finals 2024, in Astana. For Kazakhstan, this event became an important step in strengthening the country's position as an IT hub in Central Asia. Within the framework of the championship, the prospects for integrating collegiate programming into educational programs at Kazakhstani universities were discussed, opening up new prospects for young people throughout the region. Thanks to the support of Freedom Holding Corp., 11 representative offices of the Federation were opened throughout Kazakhstan, over 400 students and schoolchildren were able to undergo training, and 592 computer science teachers became participants in the Federation's educational programs this year.
In March of 2024, construction of a new educational block with an area of almost six thousand square meters began at Almaty's SDU University, with the support of Freedom Holding Corp. The company allocated KZT 1.8 billion for the project, including KZT 1.3 billion transferred in 2024. According to the plan, the new modern educational building will become a hub for research in the field of fintech innovations, and the Freedom Space Zone will be created on its campus, with AI laboratories in the fields of robotics, cybersecurity, collegiate programming and machine learning. This will allow students to use AI-based technologies in various applied areas, honing both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Moreover, the campus will be equipped with an interactive financial literacy center, where Freedom Academy experts will be able to teach the basic principles of investing and trading. The initiative to build a new educational building is a further confirmation of Freedom Holding Corp.'s readiness to support and promote comprehensive growth and development of current and future generations of the Kazakhstanis.
The QJ League is a unique project that has no equivalents…even in Europe. Since its creation it has become a real engine for football development in Kazakhstan, inspiring and motivating young players, coaches, fans and everyone involved in the development of football in our country, every day. Thanks to the support of Freedom Holding Corp., which allocated a total of KZT 5.9 billion for the project, including KZT 1.1 billion transferred this year, it was possible to organize championships, player training, and elevate the quality of competition to a new level while involving teams from all regions of Kazakhstan in the League.
The League gives young players an excellent opportunity to get closer to world level play and feel like real football professionals: matches are held on a weekly basis, air travel is arranged, teams are accommodated in the best hotels, and the ultimate in nutrition is provided. It is under these conditions where young football players can truly grow and develop to reach their full potential. In additional to developing professional football players, the League also creates a powerful support system for coaches, promoting their constant training and growth, allowing them to not only understand coaching techniques and theory, but also apply it in practice, as they raise a new generation of players.
