It's Drinking Water Week--a reminder of the importance of water conservation and protecting our water resources! Behind the scenes, Water Utilities and Utility Customer Service employees work every day to maintain infrastructure, respond to repairs, assist residents, and help ensure reliable service throughout the city. These employees play an essential role in keeping water utility service flowing smoothly, whether working in the field or assisting customers directly.
Grand Prairie's water system is supported by an impressive network that serves residents across the city, including:
• Nearly 8,000 fire hydrants
• Approximately 900 miles of water lines
• About 650 miles of collection lines
• More than 51,000 water customer accounts
• Nearly 4,500 meter-related service orders completed each month
• Almost 72,000 payments processed per month
In 2025, Water Utilities employees repaired 124 water main breaks citywide, helping restore service quickly and minimize disruptions for residents.
The City of Grand Prairie recognizes and appreciates the dedication, hard work, and commitment of these employees who help support the safety, health, and well-being of the community every day.
